Celebrate goodness #4

i've been so blessed, i just can't keep it to myself.
Today, i was able to work with CYA AdDU. i was so inspired by their teamwork that i can't help but tell my brain to produce more life-giving ideas. This afternoon, i was able to talk to one of my most treasured friends, Donna. She is one of the most loving and sincerest person i know. And although we've chosen (literally) different paths that keep us apart, i know that our friendship is as strong as ever. i thank God because He helped me in dealing with one challenging passenger across me in the jeepney ride home. He kept telling me some things [like telling me i was 'gwapa'-hehe] and other stuffs. i was really annoyed with Him, but somehow God touched my heart and He told me that more than anything, i should love and not hate, nor be impatient. :)

Today, we celebrated Lola Lita's birth anniversary.. Although we recently found out that her real birthday was June 27, we still went on with what date we were used to. And our baby Keansley played two songs on keyboard for Lola.. Awww..

Cleaner wastes #2

[1] "You're a garbage bin scavenger. You come out at night hoping to find some things useful in the bins. Sometimes, you come out early in the afternoon to find much more and earn much more than when you come out at night. You approach one bin labelled 'non-biodegradable'; it is filled with all sorts of trash anyhow. The smell upsets your stomach. The stench pains your nose. You tell yourself, 'i'm used to it anyway.' You grabbed to open one light but fully stuffed plastic bag. Shocked were you to find out that in it were soiled tissues and used sanitary napkins. With all the curses you're stifling in your throat, you tossed the plastic bag back into the bin. Now you've learned your lesson: feel the bag before opening it; saves you your time and saves you from all unnecessary grossness."
[2] "You're a child, not just any ordinary child. You live near the waste landfills. You don't go to school. You don't need to. You can already distinguish paper from steel, plastics from dead animals without the guidance of an elementary teacher. You earn a living selling junk. You get sick. That's normal. No one's expected to be healthy near mountains of garbage. You die. That's normal. You are just among many scavengers anyway. You are just part of the figures. A part of the population."
How exactly do they feel dealing with those gruesome wastes? What i've written - maybe they're just the tip of the iceberg. It could all be worse out there. What exactly can we do to help them? How can we reach out to them. They are part of the society. They are us. We are them. We cannot look at them, know about them and think and say we never knew anything. We cannot just be blind to this. What can we do?

Hey bruv! ;)

Anyway..

So we were watching Kingsman the Secret Service.. the volume was so low because we were playing it on the laptop and we brought no cable connectors for those loud speakers available. Nevertheless, even with not so audible dialogues, i was convinced that the movie was really good.

i have to say, i really am drawn into the character of Eggsy. Not only is he a loyal guy, but he is extremely gentle and sensitive in so many cute and beautiful ways. Like the one scene where he had to escape the cops and drive fast and furiously away from them.. but then there was a cat (i think) in the middle of the road and so he had to steer the vehicle away from the cat which just led him to being caught by the police! It was amazing! He definitely is an animal lover, yea?

i also love, love how he treats Roxy.. Roxy is a strong woman. She is brainy and she really proves that she could go head on with the boys in terms of competing for the position of Lancelot. But then here comes Eggsy, treating Roxy in the gentlest way possible. He supports her and encourages her to give her best in the competition. Not that that i'm implying that they should be more than friends. (i'm contented with both of them treating each other like they're siblings.) But it's really a great blessing to be surrounded by a guy like that. (So how did it feel, Roxy?) hahaha! i'm not being bitter here, but if there could be more guys like them - mature, strong-willed and sensitive to the needs of his fellowmen - the world would be a better place to live in.
because being a gentlemen never goes out of style ;)
P.S. i also would like to do a little analysis on the part where Eggsy was ordered by Arthur to shoot his dog friend, JB (for Jack Bauer). i believe you should shoot the dog, not because you have the courage to kill an animal, not to mention an animal you love, but because you trust the one who ordered you to do it. In a way, maybe you could also analyze or see through it that there really was no bullet inside the gun because you have deduced it. But also, maybe you could shoot the dog but you should miss the shot. You know what i'm talking about, following instructions in the most creative way possible? Nevertheless, i didn't really like the test. It won't tell you that you're really a qualified Kingsman, because you could still shoot or not shoot the dog for so many different (and maybe wrong) reasons. so there..
To whoever inspired Eggsy's creator to create him in the fictional world, thank you and i salute you!
To every gentleman out there, both dead and living, i salute you too! ;)

Siksik, Liglig, Umaapaw

Prep 15 is a household activity for men and women held 15 days before Kairos started. It was a venue where participants could learn to live with all sisters or all brothers, perform their household tasks, and at the same time, strengthen their womanly or manly character. It is just the same as the format for households we’re holding here in Davao, the only big difference is we had foreign delegates.

The first day I arrived at Jerusalem House, I was already greeted with hugs and beso-beso by my sisters. They really welcomed me. I tried to feel at home, but then and there, Ghea, our household head, informed me I shouldn’t speak Bisaya, nor should I speak in Filipino, I should speak in English. And so I thought this would be a disaster. But more than the language barrier problem, I really felt not at home because I was so shy with everyone and I was so scared because I didn't know how to socialize with them. So there i was, in a place i am not used to live in, with people i only met (except Aiana, i met her before). I felt I’m in a very scary nightmare and all i can do was to wish for it all to be over!!!....... But my action group leader, ate Krish, came to the rescue. She advised me by the phone what to do and how to deal with my fears. She even visited us in Jerusalem house.

So I tried to play it cool. I tried to do what I thought was expected of me to do: do household chores and follow rules. But I think God had other plans in mind. He really wanted me to go deeper with my relationship with my sisters, you know, that thing called "going out of your comfort zone".. I was caught off guard! The next thing I knew, I was already speaking in English like a pro (maybe the Holy Spirit descended on me), I was already sharing my personal testimony to Zette (because she asked for it too), our kitchen steward, I started teaching Tagalog words, phrases and statements to Tania, Alicia and Janice and i also started learning Indian language like “Mi changli distey”, I was already sharing and singing my favorite song during mealtime and also shared my Hallor-hallor baby prank experience.. I learned a lot from my new friends: how much lots of them love the song "Night Changes", how we all loved jamming and singing.. I realized that we were so alike in so many ways. All of us really bonded together. We were so loud.. we were feeling so young and free and alive.. we sang songs and danced Hip-hop Abs.. And we cried so hard reflecting on our experience with the sick children in PGH UP Manila.. we laughed so badly one dinner time that our sister, Hannah Rae, hyperventilated, we panicked, and we had to get a paper bag for her to breathe in. So there! We reached both extremes of joy and sadness, and we reached it "together" as sisters, and maybe that strengthened our relationship with each other.

If you’d like to know, our household chores were not that easy at all. There were times one would have to clean the bathroom, or wake up early to prepare breakfast, or stay up late at night washing plates, glasses, spoon and forks used by 21 ladies. It was really some serious training for us. Many of us got sick during the household period (maybe also because of the schedules we had to attend to). I had my turn of being sick. But then again, I wasn’t sick for long. Abie, Tania & I were supposed to do the dishes the evening I got sick. But the two of them did everything before I even got the chance to help. Ghea and Thea made me drink medicine and lots of water. And when I checked my household assignment for the next day, instead of being the dishwasher (for lunch, i think), I was assigned as the prayer room cleaner. When you are the prayer room cleaner, it is good as almost doing nothing because the task was so easy. So you see, my body had no choice but to get well soo fast because of all the love and care I was receiving, not to mention all the prayers and laughter. :)

i really love sports! So even though many of us were good or not good at playing, we were all given a chance to unleash the energy in us.. We were able to play sports in Antipolo and also one in Don Bosco.. i learned really cool games like Kabaddi  and Captain Ball.. We also played sack race. it's a Filipino game so i didn't have to learn it.

There was also this unforgettable experience we had. Ghea asked Pola and I to be the host of a Jamming Night with kuya Ken and kuya John. Pola, maybe the holy Spirit also descended on her, suggested that I play the role of Jesus and she play the role of the Samaritan woman (the one where Jesus asked her for a drink, and later on she was the one asking Jesus for the water of life - John 4:4-26). So we were playing our roles and everybody were laughing the whole time (i hope Jesus was not offended with me playing as Him). We jammed with kuya John and kuya Ken. We sang Ed Sheeran and 1D songs, Hallor Hallor Baby (it was soo embarrassing), a song composed by Zette's friend, and also one entitled "Ten Guitars" led by Annalize.. While the two men sang Country Homes and Jamaica Farewell. It was so fun but also sad at the same time because later that night we learned that Sonali lost her Lolo that morning. She knew about it the whole day (most of us did not know). She was mourning, but still she chose to join us in our activities.

More than all the fun and crying (we cried a lot), we were also so overwhelmed with the great provision of the Lord for us. God gave us a place to stay, the Jerusalem House, thanks to the Melchors. We were also able to visit and have fun in Antipolo, Batangas  and Bulacan, thanks to the generosity of the Ligaya brothers and sisters. In our road trips, we were able to appreciate girl scouting even more, because we had to be "always prepared" in our escapades. But more than being a girl scout, we actually were really able to breathe in the beauty of God's creations around us (esp. back in Tali). In addition to the road trips, some families even gave a Manila City tour – all expenses paid (including lunch and snacks). He provided our household with loving teachers, tita Cor, tita Chu and tita Mae to give us talks, training and helpful question and answer portions. We felt God speak to us everytime we pray and worship Him especially in Morning Prayer sessions and in our meditation and Bible study time. The sisters always get overwhelmed especially whenever God's personal messages for each one of us would just connect, you know what i mean? It's like everything made sense. God called us and set the date and place for us sisters to meet. God made miracles happen in the way He touched our lives with the little time we were together.

i am also very much amazed with the really talented people i was surrounded with. Their talents: dancing, singing, playing guitar, composing songs (the epic song: 1568 Princeton Street, Wack-wack Village), drawing, designing, crafting stuffs, cooking real good food, capturing memories, doing calligraphy, modeling, teaching, joking, playing sports. There were a lot to discover about each other that we really couldn't get enough of one another. We felt that 15 days are not enough. But then again, in those days, as much as we could, we shared and talked with one another, we were attentive and sensitive to another's needs and we were willing to listen. :)

It's wonderful how every little and big detail of our household chronicles were beautifully knit together by the same God who made everything come into existence. It's awesome as well that lots of people sacrificed and gave generously of what they have (tangible or not) just to make Prep 15 happen.

Finally, i'd like to thank CYA Davao for all your prayers and calls and text messages of support in the entire time i was not with you.. Thank you for the Holy Trinity Community and Ang Lingkod ng Panginoon for your support and generosity. Without you eagerly saying "Yes!" to the Lord, maybe I Gerard and Alfonso, would not be able to experience the historical Prep 15. I really learned a lot and what I thought would only be a training experience became an experience of a lifetime, a memorable experience - not mainly because of all the places we’ve been to, or all the activities we've conducted, but because of the bond we’ve formed in the household as sisters. And so like Mary, i'll keep these things in my heart.. i'll ponder on them and i'll praise God we, sisters, found each other. :)

Jeepney Story #2

it was such an uncomfortable, crowded and damp jeepney ride under the evening rain. Everyone in the the jeep was sleepy and tired. The mood was, however, brightened up by three ladies. The first one sweetly spoke, "Bayad, palihog".. A passenger handed her payment to the driver then she said, "Salamat". Shortly after a second lady said, "Bayad, palihog.. Salamat!".. Then the third went, "Bayad, palihog.. Salamat!"

Three ladies, three sweet and sincere voices - reasons for the smile on my face and for those happy memories to start playing over.

[Bayad, palihog - My payment, please (Shortened version for "Hand to the driver my fare, please"
Salamat - Thank you]
and then there was that beautiful artwork..
on my quest for the title of that song. ;)

the song was  "The Nights"

"Gender verification tests are difficult, expensive, and potentially inaccurate. Furthermore, these tests fail to exclude all potential impostors (eg, some 46,XX males), are discriminatory against women with disorders of sexual development, and may have shattering consequences for athletes who 'fail' a test."

Rethink these tests! If these are really necessary, make sure that these tests are accurate and are not humiliating.

[KIM]
You are sunlight and I moon
Joined by the gods of fortune
Midnight and high noon
Sharing the sky
We have been blessed, you and I

[CHRIS]
You are here like a mystery
I'm from a world that's so different
From all that you are
How in the light of one night
Did we come so far?

[KIM]
Outside day starts to dawn

[CHRIS]
Your moon still floats on high

[KIM]
The birds awake

[CHRIS]
The stars shine too

[KIM]
My hands still shake

[CHRIS]
I reach for you

[BOTH] And we meet in the sky!

[KIM]
You are sunlight and I moon
Joined here
Bright'ning the sky
With the flame
Of love
[BOTH]
Made of Sunlight Moonlight

the song is so deep.. how it sings about the light of one night that makes all the difference.. all the separation one night could bring - in their case, one night meant that they're in both ends of the globe.. aww.... what's with the ending?!?!?!?! :(
it's funny how funny comments come out of a-little-bit-serious posts.. wait, is this even serious?
teehee.. ;)

it is the nicest job ever - to experience great memories and to capture them and encapsulate them in a video as this!!
how i pray i could make something like this too, Lord.. X))
yeah! Nothing is impossible to Him!
All for His glory!
Btw, come and visit Philippines!!

Nevertheless, know that wherever you may be, everything around you is magical.. everything around you is sacred and beautiful because all His creations unquestionably are.. we just have to look. :)

i should also follow him. :)

thanks for sharing, 9gag

Christian and his mom have a nightly ritual where they take an iPad and search for whatever fascinates him on Google. He's usually interested in animals but that night, Christian looked up St. Jude's. When an ad for a hair donation charity popped up, he asked Thomas what it meant. She explained to him people can donate their locks to cancer patients who have lost theirs due to chemotherapy.

"And he said, 'I want to do that,'" Thomas, 28, recalled. "I was blown away… usually when Christian sets his mind to something, he pretty much goes with it. He doesn't let anything falter his goals. I was pretty confident that he was actually going to follow through with it."                         [from TODAY Parents]
"Man's authority over creation is not 'absolute' but 'ministerial': it is a real reflection of the unique and infinite lordship of God. Hence man must exercise it with wisdom and love, sharing in the boundless wisdom and love of God." (Evangelium Vitae No. 52) Otherwise, "the flowerbed" (Dante Alighieri's Paradiso, XXII, 151) would be transformed into a catastrophic abyss.
[from Daily Gospel 2015 -Claretian Publications]

It is true! Man cannot be a Christian and at the same time neglect his duties as a steward of God's creations. Let us integrate in everything we do - be it mission work, prayer meetings, or venue designs for evangelistic events - the responsibility God has given us from the very start: to take care of the environment and let nature bloom to its full potential in the way God has designed for it to become.

People behind CCT, the management and the staff, played a vital role in making Kairos Arise happen. We thank them for being one with the mission and vision of the Sword of the Spirit in training & empowering the youth and sending them out as bold witnesses of the love and the saving power of our God. Not only are they contented with giving us accommodation, they actually had been giving their all to the Lord many years before now. To further their mission, you may
Let us join with Christ's mission in building God's Kingdom here on Earth.. and if we find people doing the same thing - serving the Lord by serving their neighbors, let us be one with them! "that they may all be one; even as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me." There's no place I'd rather be
There's no place I'd rather be
There's no place I'd rather be
Than here in your love, here in your love

So set a fire down in my soul
That I can't contain and I can't control
I want more of You God, I want more of You God!

Set a Fire
It was painful to delete your song playlists on the phone. i had to delete copies of songs like "Hanggang" by Wency Cornejo, Love, Love, Love by Hope & Jason Mraz, Begin Again by Taylor Swift.. and many other songs which have moved me in different ways.. like Burning Bridges, Feel Again and songs by Jon McLaughlin.. etc.. it was so difficult to delete them, because as i read their titles, the songs play to my mind and memories slowly fade in... it is like i am undergoing some kind of break-up that i had to detach myself to something.. :(

but i realize, i had to give them all up to God so i can focus more on Him and glorify Him even more.. in Him is fullness of life and fulfillment of all my heart's longings. :)

Now, i slowly replaced them with worship songs as i move forward to His mission for me. :)
