drop of water

i made this ordinary work of art from a recycled chocolate foil.. this is the first foil artwork i've made using foil as my major medium.

the title of this work reminds me that i chose to make this one because it is the simplest topic that came into my mind. But now, looking back to this work, i realize that Holmes was right. Quoting from him, "From a drop of water, a logician could infer the possibility of an Atlantic or a Niagara without having seen or heard of one or the other. So all life is a great chain... " A drop of water gives a hint that life exists in a planet.. In a drop of water is fire, earth, and air.. as they all say - the four basic elements.. 

"Heavy substances such as iron and metals were considered to be primarily consisting of the "element" of earth, with a limited amount of matter from the other elements. Other, less heavy and/or dense objects were thought to be less earthy, and composed of a greater mixture of the other elements. Humans were created with all of the substances, with the exception of aether, but the relative proportion of elements was unique to each person, and there was no standard amount of each within the human body."

Preparing the foils:

welcome to a public hospital in Philippines!

i visited a relative in a public hospital today. i did not know what his room assignment was. All i know was his name and that he is in this public hospital. Given that, i tried to find him by finding the information desk/area. i was therefore given a chance to have a quick look about the rooms. i could see that in a large room, more than a dozen patients were laid there. There was no air conditioner and i could observe no electric fans from where i was standing. The smell about the place is not so pleasing for me, how much more for these hoping-to-heal patients? i finally found the information booth and perhaps they could not find my relative's name in their computer so they told me to try finding him in the emergency room buffer first. By the name, i realised what this room was for.. maybe these are for those who are waiting for vacant rooms, or maybe out-patients or maybe for those who haven't paid their bills in full yet. But i learned, as i found my relative among a sea of patients in the room that these are for patients who could not afford the more "expensive" regular room for patients. if you could only see the place, i myself would be discouraged while staying in there. You could see everyone lying down. Only one guardian is allowed per patient yet the place is obviously crowded, and people are either talking or eating or sleeping. It is not what i would consider a very peaceful place.. Lots of people look tired and depressed and the feeling is quite contagious.. i hope the patients would be extra-spirited in their recovery so they'd recover fast.. and then there's their park.. not so many trees and not so very large a park either.. i began to think, this is what the government could only afford?? Seriously?.. How could corrupt politicians go on like nothing is happening in the society?? For goodness's sake, people are suffering! Take action, leaders!! and don't just store up money for yourselves, which for a fact you cannot take with you when the sun decides to swallow up the Earth!

P.S. i'd have to say the hospital has improved over the years..but that's not enough though, is it?
